Minimizing My Wardrobe
Hello Beauties! Every looked into your closet and thought you had nothing to wear? Yeah, me too! Like all the time! It can be very frustrating because you know you have good pieces in there but for whatever reason you can’t seem to put an outfit together or don’t like anything you see.
The Solution: Capsule Wardrobe!
What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe usually consists of about 40 pieces of practical clothing that are very easily paired with your other pieces for a season.
Why I have created a capsule wardrobe and why I invite you to join me in this process?
I have recently been feeling like I’m in a clothing rut, and I want to truly know what is in my closet and be able to go in and select my outfits easily knowing what I wear is gonna look great together.
So starting out this process, I am aiming to reduce my wardrobe to 100 pieces of clothing in my closet that all flow and work with one another. Yes, this is way more than 40. However, if I have 40 pieces per season that is 160 total pieces. Also, I live in Texas where we only have really 3 seasons, so I feel like 100 is good for me.
Starting out, I took everything out of my closet and laid them on my bed separating them by type. I had 136 pieces of clothing.
Then I started with my bottoms. Get rid of duplicates of things or things that are very similar. Choose which one you like the best to keep and put the others in the donate pile. Try things on and decide if you still like it? If you saw it in the store would you buy it now? Have you worn it in the past year? Does it make you feel good about yourself and confident? Asking yourself these questions helps you to determine if you are going to keep it. If after you’ve answered all those questions and you still think its a good idea to keep it, put it up to your other clothes and see if you can wear it different ways. Is it practical for your day to day? If the answer is yes. Then keep it!
Laying out my clothes to see if my clothing would be able to be worn with multiple other pieces really helped me determine what items to keep and which items to donate or re-purpose.
After going through all my clothing I ended up with 98 pieces.
I now have a cohesive wardrobe that I will be able to fully utilize!
I then organized it to best fit the summer season and to be able to transition out when it becomes colder. This will help me to continue to not be overwhelmed and to better find and create outfits as I go throughout my weeks.
This is going to be an ongoing process for me. Each month, I am going to be going through my closet and looking for things I don’t wear. This is just my first big start!
I hope this encourages you to look at your wardrobe or things in your house you don’t use and help you to let things go! It might not be easy but it will be rewarding at the end!
Enjoy your upcoming weekend!
XOXO,
Dinah
